My guess would be,as I bring them also and give it to the maid for their kids.School supplies are always a great gift to bring.

Our group brings school supplies each year that are either given to staff members for their kids or passed through the staff to a local school. As the economy there is so bad this provides at least a little lift to the local kids. We usually end up with a whole king sized bed covered with the various supplies- sometimes it takes a couple trips up to the desk to empty them out of Rick and Ivy's room.

I bring crayons also,,,,,,,,,,remarkably you can only bring in 25.00 worth of gifts for Jamaicians, even if they are school supplies, so be careful what you tell them at customs upon entering the country. They made me get out my receipt a couple of years ago to prove I spent 24.90 for the crayons. Couldn't believe it.........
I've always thought that the people here were the most open, honest, non-judgmental and GIVING lot anyone could desire to find. This is certainly proof that, aside from taking the vacation of a life time, it doesn't take much to make someone else's day special as well. This is one hell of a great example! Kudos to you and to all who "leave behind" items...especially for the kids...anything to help erase the "Ugly American" image that seemed so prevalent abroad.
