This approach is one that is more likely to guarantee you have a good time. Perhaps you could even have fun if your luggage was lost and your costume plans have gone out the window... (Hedo folks would no doubt help you make new costumes !)
It's a good approach for any traveler to take!
However if Splenda is what tickles your taste buds, nothing wrong with bringing your own (I try to avoid artificial sweetners so wouldn't know the difference). I threw a couple of my favorite energy drinks in my luggage on my last trip and really enjoyed them -especially knowing I couldn't have had that brand if I didn't have my own stash.
I don't know how much pleasure you derive from Heinz but I doubt it's enough for a bottle's worth of cargo space. Maybe save a handful of fast food packets to bring (in a ziplock). Or you could free yourself from the clutches of its addictive hold on you and do what PNK said -forget about it ;-)
But I think the spirit of PNK's statement is about being open to adventure and not fixating on everything being just so. I want to keep this in mind when I travel.

VERY WELL SAID! And this goes not only for Hedo and Jamaica, but anywhere outside your local environment you wish to venture. Look at it as an adventure. We certainly do this every day living in China! Trying new things and discovering new things is half the fun of being here (or anywhere else we have travelled).

I'm so glad to see you and your wife this excited about your trip to Hedo :-)

At this point in my life, I travel to Hedo 2-3 times a year, so I bring a few comforts from home After my 8 or 9th trip, I began bringing my own Heinz ketchup. I used to bring several bottles of very nice red wine to enjoy with dinner until the restaurant started selling super Tuscan Reds (so happy :-) When traveling to places I've never been before, I will concede to the condiments, wine, food, and other first time experiences of the country I am visiting. I've been to Hedo quite a few time and the burgers and fries are soooo damn good and the Heinz ketchup makes them even better LOL.

My advice is bring what you want, and you will figure out how to pack next time.

PNK, we appreciate the spirit of your email and truly intend to have the Hedo experience to it's fullest! While it is true, we do have a few food concerns because of allergies and medical conditions. We only ask these things so that we can be fully prepared so as to have an amazing and adventurous time at Hedo. We are generally go with the flow kind of people and have visited many exotic places and dabbled in things most people would never dream of. However, since Health Care seems kind of sparse in Jamaica we would like to make sure we are taking care of ourselves in the best way possible, even if that means bringing along a grocery bag of assorted goodies.

Thanks for all the wonderful info everyone!

We are looking forward to the trip!

This Feb. will be our second trip to Hedo. We spent over a year browsing the forum and asking questions, but until we found that you have to actually go before you will know enough for your second trip. Melisa and I are opposite in that I'll eat most anything, drink most anything, adapt to most anything, etc. So, we brought Splenda and flavored creamer for her coffee, etc. Once there we learned that she liked the local coffee, there was Splenda and other items she liked, etc. However, she is also a bit picky about what she drinks, and we learned that she doesn't like the wine or Bloody Mary's at Hedo (and she doesn't like to drink anything else). So, for the week she was far too sober for an open bar. I've heard they now stock a better Bloody Mary mix, but we plan to bring about 6 bottles of Melisa's favorite wine and a bottle of Bloody Mary mix, just in case. Our plan is to start with a glass or two of the wine she likes, then follow up with the house wine (you know the story, you can taste the first one and after that they all taste the same).

Moral of the story, your first trip is somewhat of an exploritory trip anyway. Bring what you think you want to bring and have fun. No matter what you do or don't bring, you'll start planning your second trip before you even finish your first week at Hedo.

PNK said basically what I was thinking!!! If you get a response that the ketchup is horrible, there is no sweetener, etc are you going to walk around *nude* with a box full of condiments?! Just go and enjoy the experience!

Basically, bring what you THINK you will need....then the next trip you can bring what you KNOW you will need. Enjoy your time.

Now I'm going to make it a point to order a hamburger and douse it down good with jerk sauce. Can't believe I never thot about it but I am more a chicken guy anyway.Personally I did not realize the ketchup was not American made.It was as good as Hunt's for sure. The only thing I ever had at Hedo that I thot was over rated was a Purple Rain.Won't try that one again. But the Red Stripe and their other drinks were just fine. Also, the Margaritas we were served were WAY more powerful than what I could make at home with Jose Cuervo so I am going to be sure to see exactly how they make theirs!

The chicken at the nude pool grill is so good I put jerk sauce on the side. That's some good chicken.

Yeah I have not had a good margarita anyplace on the Island but it's jamicia if I wanted margaritas I would go to Mexico

I dipped my grilled cheese and pizza in jerk sauce. We also make MoBay burgers at home it's your basic cheese burger with jerk sauce on it.
