Temporary, Alternate, Chat Room Site

.. just until 4hedonism gets their chat room going again..

can I suggest http://www.jmeeting.com ?

it's a web front-end to IRC (internet relay chat for those of you < 30)

plus, you can video chat with webcams too.. {wink, wink, nudge, nudge} ...

some people go nuts with bots & stuff (programs that act like bouncers), but you can do as much or as little as you want.

it's free for their 'lite' features, which has been more than enough for me for many years..

Just a thought.. (what's another window to keep open all day?? )

ok, is it me or does the penguin look a bit linux orientated?

I signed up .. downloaded the jmeeting standalone and i get an error messgae saying it can't open a .jar file.

errr... this is the correct number for support, right?

From what I've read, the stand-alone only works for subscribers.
I've always just ran the version on the web page, and it runs just fine.
(log in on the far right pane, and all the controls show up in the far left pane)

you have to keep the main window up, otherwise all the the windows go away (a java thing), but hey, you get what you (don't) pay for.

where to go:

after logging in, make sure you're in the tab:

then make sure you're looking at the pane on the left that looks like:

then click on the tab:

then click on the group:

and look for a room that says "HedoThreeXThree"

Can't find room Hedothreexthree. Maybe nobody is there so it won't open?Lot's of rooms with names we can't possibly understand......

If there's no one in it you have to open it yourself, as in start a new one.

(it's typical that Mr IT illiterate tries and fails first!! )

If there isn't a Hedo{something} room, just right click on any room, and choose 'Create Room', name it whatever you want, preferably with Hedo so we know where to go

since this is a variety of IRC, some folks have bots (small programs) that keep the room open.. I may set one up if I ever see more than one more other person on at once
