Private message length

Hey Chris,

Any chance you can increase the allowable limit on private message length? Say to 1500 or 2000 characters? I've found that I've just gone over the 1000 character limit, but just over. Maybe a slight increase would be helpful to us on this great forum you have created.

I agree completely. I've had to delete and tweak many of my PM's due to exceeding the length

When I first start on this forum that was one of my major complaints but I finally realized that even blank space is defined as part of your 1000 characters.

If you're willing to get rid of decent paragraph structure you can generally squeeze what you need to say in.

If Chris can alter the 1000 limit it would surely mean that you could have far fewer overall messages and you'd have to dump or archive old messages far more often. Since I'm sure both you ladies are quite popular that could become a hassle.

Ultimately the PM system should lead to exchange of real email addresses for the folks you want to have serious conversations with.

I have found that if I just edit out the other persons PM to me, there is usually plenty of room.

I jus wan go home mon!

Yes, if you just delete the text that the person sent you, it frees up a lot of space.

Thanks Chris the pm msg length has bit me a couple of times as well. Also is there a possibility of increasing the time out value? No problem though if by doing so it causes the site problems. I would also like to say thanks for the effort you have put into this site.

If you enable cookies for the site the timeout becomes irrelevant.
