Cop,
Had this officer literally lie his ass off one day at trial about the illegal stop and search he was involved with. He didn't know I had a copy of the audio transmission and i embarrassed him pretty bad. His name was Annis, which of course, I continued to pronounce "Anus" with malicious intent aforethought. He was eventually canned and that was a good thing.
I think every profession ought to fire about half of those in its work force, as i think less than half are really competent. i.e. The Peter Principle.
But my last great offer I had was with the ADA on a case.
My guy was trafficking in meth. An illegal stop and search which the idiot judge thought was constitutional, set me up for a tough negotiation in the ADA's office.
He wanted 20 years, I tried to assure him that I'd win on appeal, so he might want to change his offer. He refused. Said that the DA and judge will only take 20 years.
Then I observed a cigar sitting on his desk, unopened. I inquired as to the type and he began bragging about what a good cuban cigar it was. How he was looking forward to smoking it. I agreed, that it was a wonderful tobacco, but i reminded him of the irony. He asked me in what way. I said, because you're putting my guy in jail for 20 years, with a very shaky and illegal stop and seizure, all the while you're violating the laws of the U.S.'s Government in possessing this illegal contraband.
My client wrote to me from prison and tried to refer me other clients too. It seems, no one in prison ever got the 10 years to serve, that he did. Now you know, the 'rest of the story!"
