There is something fishy about the security guards though. The one that searched our room kept saying "let me search or I'm gonna call the cops." We weren't being non-compliant or disruptive.

Then, at Breezes, I asked a security guard there if turning a room upside down when something is stolen is standard policy, she kept asking me our room number and I wouldn't tell her because I could tell she wanted to go to our room and search it, she kept threatening to "take me to jail."

My thoughts is that the thieves and security are all connected and all corrupt to a certain extent.

I've noticed over the years that it is easy to come back to your room and find the safe open. I've never had anything taken luckily. I guess with two people using it, one gets the camera and the other is going to get something and forgets. Or I just open it and forget, or sometimes you push the buttons and it doesn't lock. If it was left open it would be easy to lift something and then close it and push the button and you come back to the room to find the safe locked and the money missing, a mystery.

Then Hedo being Hedo, I guess the staff must have dealt with a lot of situations where some guests got a little blitzed and just forgot what they did with the money or wallet (I'm not suggesting you did this) and it is later found after much accusing of the staff. Also they are industrious and if they think $150.00 might be lost in the room they are going to find it as it might cost them or one of their co-workers a job.

I always have the same nice lady take care of my room every year, she knows I'm going to hook her up at the end of the week, room is nice all the time and I feel like she is a friend. She is the only other person who should ever be in our room so I have a nice level of trust.

I'm sorry this happened to you on vacation, no one wants that drama while trying to chill

Just relax and have fun!!! We are starting our 4th trip next Sat.... This, as I'm sure you have learned, is a SMALL number!!!
The fact that there are MANY people that have been 20+ times, is all the proof you need that HEDO is a great place!
I certainly don't have "real" stats, however, my best guesstimate is that 99% of those that take a vacation at HEDO return!!!

Besides that the staff is great and this is one of the best places to vacation.

The Entertainment Coordinators tend to play and flirt with almost everyone and they do it on purpose. That's their job.............to keep people having fun, laughing and enjoying themselves. Some people might take their antics the wrong way and mis-interpret their play as "coming on" to someone. In 25 trips to one or the other of the Hedonisms, we've never seen an E/C go beyond the bounds of their jobs. On another note, regular staff are not allowed in the dining room or any oif the other public areas unless they are on duty and supposed to be there (and that includes pools and hot tubs). The exceptions are the E/C's and managers. Our take on the staff as a whole is that they are the most hard-working, friendly and dedicated we've ever come in contact with at any hotel world-wide.

It's so hard to explain. That's why the easiest way is to tell people, "When you go, You'll know"!!!! The reviews are scattered, but for open minded people this really is a wonderful place to go. It literally is a breath of fresh air to finally know there are people in the world that actually know how to behave like mature adults (LOL) in an environment like that.

Drugs are available. Read the comments by Cop above. Hard drugs are generally NEVER tolerated by staff or guests. Many guests will prefer you take any drugs well away from them. Ditto tobacco products.
There are some hard core alcoholics at Hedo. They may cause some problems. They usually get led to their rooms by staff and guests.
As a rule guests are NOT hit on by staff. However some guests seem to think a dark skinned man is a 'target' for themselves. You can read some of the comments on this topic on this site. Put it down to underlying racism in North America.
Most everyone who returns to Hedo does so because they have had a wonderful time. We don't look at the rooms (except the ceiling!), we enjoy the food, we sample the offerings at the bars, and enjoy the company of other guests and staff.
We remember we are not at home and take personal security as our responsibility. We have a great time and return and return and ...
Relax, stop reading reviews and don't plan a detailed vacation. Let the Hedo atmosphere (you might want to inhale) wash over you -- and enjoy.

Ive been to Hedo 4 times as a married and single guy. I'll be there for my fifth trip in 6 days...I have never seen anything but the utmost repsect from the staff. When I was there as a single guy, I was laying at the pool next to a couple and this douche bag single guy comes up to the woman, stroking himself with sunscreen and soliciting the woman with the husband sitting right there. I did not want to get involved, but I did, and told him to get away and escorted him away...that's about the extent of it. Hedo is Awesome...Anyone in business knows: You can't please all of the people all of the time

My husband and I are big on reading reviews as well. Just want to be prepared and make sure we're not wasting our money and hard-earned vacation days, I suppose. We did the same thing when we went to Excellence Punta Cana (which BTW I thought was over-the-top outstanding STUPID luxurious). I think I knew the layout of the entire resort before we even landed! So we're doing the same thing with Hedo. I think because of that we'll be better prepared (yes, we have our insulated mugs, fun toys, and all the other nifty things you pros told us to get).

However, we also read a few no-so-flattering reviews. But the same thing happened when we went to Excellence. There were a handful of reviews saying the food was "sub-standard". Personally, I thought it was excellent. More importantly, if you're going to an all-inclusive resort expecting the culinary experience of a lifetime, then you're just plain stupid. If I want food to die for, I'll go to Europe. If I want a 5-star room and people kissing my ass all day, I'll go BROKE. I think we have a healthy expectation that the food should be decent and plentiful, the alcohol should flow without end, the room should be clean, and the party should be off the proverbial chain. Some people will be miserable no matter where they are...paradise or not.

I don't think you can expect to gather a hundred people, remove their clothes, add alcohol, and NOT see some shady behavior. That happens in bars all the time, and people generally have their clothes on when it does. If you get easily offended, then obviously you made the wrong vacation spot choice. I love how you all talk about RESPECT. That sure seems to be the bottom line. And I haven't even gotten naked yet.

The stories I read about the amazing people, the friendly, fun staff, the experiences to be had, and the feelings of empowerment and relaxation that seem to come from vacationing at Hedo FAR outweigh the random complaint about the food, grounds, or whatnot.

Guess I'll be letting you know soon enough. 19 days 'til our first Hedo trip. As long as we have food to eat, booze to drink, a place to lay our heads, and new friends to meet, I think we're going to have a nice little vacation.

    Blessed be!

You got it PhotogFlight!!! I can't wait to read your review. You are not going to a 5star resort, but it will be an experience that you will NOT find anywhere else, even at the resorts trying to mimic Hedo
