Desire Cancun and Cabo -- why the huge price difference?

I have only been to Desire in Cancun, but I'm looking into a trip to Desire in late Feb or early March. It seems the nightly rate for the Cancun resort is about double the cost of the rate in Cabo. Can anyone shed some light on why. Is Cabo really that inferior?

Cabo is NOT inferior. It's wonderful. It's in a totally different part of Mexico -- different people (residents and guests), different attitudes, government, weather etc. Also different sales markets and price points. Once there the place is great. And saving money, or having a longer vacation, is a great idea.

Just to be clear, I am looking for comparisons of the 2 specific resorts, Desire Riveria Maya (in Cancun) and Desire Los Cabos...not a comparison of the cities or regions themselves. I have no doubt that the Baja Peninsula, in general, and Cabo, in particular, are beautiful places. I'd like to know if the Desire resort in Cabo is poor quality in some ways because it is half the price whereas other resorts (take Riu Palace, for example) are comparably priced in Cancun vs Cabo.

I looked into going there also but after researching the average temps that time of year I decided against it. Late Feb-early March the temps are 83/69 in Cancun and 75/58 in Cabo with no humidity. That is too cold for a guy wanting to leave the Midwest for some sun and warmth.

i am thinking that original resorts is really trying to promote cabo (since they rebranded it from temptations) by making it financially attractive. also, to "equalize" the combined room and airfare for couples.

in our experience, most of the couples that go to desire RM and Pearl, hail from east of the mississippi river. couples from the northeast U.S. have access to inexpensive airfare to CUN. for couples in the south, you're not going to catch a break.

to get to Cabo from east of the MS river, its going to cost you an arm and a leg and its a MUCH longer flight, than flying into CUN. hence i think that Desire is trying to "equalize" the cost of the two vacations and increase the occupancy rate of cabo.

for couples on the left coast, Desire Cabo is a no brainer, if you can live without having a nude beach.............sigh. if you are looking to party and to guarantee that the occupancy will be high; always try to book with a group. otherwise you might be disappointed.
