Odd weather phenomenon

During our week at New Years, we had a storm cell move over...we were at Nude Pool...mid afternoon rain shower, but with a twist(er)...literally, a funnel cloud horizontal and black, visually straight overhead down to the tree line to the south twisting rapidly. Never seen this before, and when the Jamaicans come out and point at it, you know it's an unusual event. We watched for about 3-4 minutes until it fizzled out. Apparently if it turned vertical, it would have ended up as a tornado, or a water spout in the ocean.

I am sure once Bob sees this post he will add his pics he got from his trip a few weeks ago that there was a funnel cloud

I wish I had a picture of it, but it was middle of afternoon and as a matter of principle we do not bring the camera to the nude pool. The funnel we saw was huge, 1/2 the sky stright overhead

Wow, at that particular point were you thinking "where is the safest place to be if it touches ground"?

Thanks Bob, thats it, as you can see it was horizontal, not vertical, so we just followed the Jamaican lead and watched...now if Bob had run for cover???? that might have been a different story.

I was thinking at work today about a good weather shelter at Hedo...I came to the conclusion that the safest place would be the casino/slots area, because nothing ever hits there!!
