    Weather in August

My husband & I are considering a trip to Hedo the beginning of August. We've never traveled to the "tropics" in summertime and we were wondering how hot & humid it gets there during that time frame. We'd already be wearing as little as possible--LOL--kinda difficult to take off more clothes when you're already naked! We're not newbies to Hedo (this would be our 2nd trip), just new at traveling there during the summer months. Also, any ideas how bad the mosquitoes and sand flies are then too? We've heard lots of good things about all the changes that Hedo has made over the last couple of years and we're looking forward to seeing it all if we go in August! Thanks for any tips! ---Jan & Ben---

July and August are the warmest and most humid months in Jamaica. It will not be much of a problem in the daytime since you will most likely be naked and in the water but you will notice it at night. We have even noticed a difference from early June to late June. In any event you will have a great time.

Echo: August will be hot and very humid. Another benefit: the unheated pools will be the warmest of the entire year and the Sea will be at 86℉.

We've been 2x in August and 1x in September. It's definitely warm but it's cooler then where we are coming from (Texas). We haven't had problems with mosquitos or sand fleas in our previous trips.

We went in August of last year. Evenings were VERY hot for doing the theme nights and wearing clothing. When you were naked it really wasnt so bad. Something else to consider is Aug 1 and 6 are national holidays that can effect things on the Island and resort. The few days around the 6th had a very diffrent feel to them than the rest of the trip as a lot of locals were at the resort using it as a hotel to be in town and party.

We are thinking of Aug 5-14...and that will be during their Aug 6th holiday. How do you mean "different feel"? Is that in a good or bad way? Safety is an issue as well. We probably won't be doing much traveling outside of the resort, but still want to feel safe while we are there.

So our first trip was the 1st through the 8th. The holiday on the first didnt really effect anything at all. August tends to be a slower time for the resort and when we were there i think capacity was around 20%. We didnt mind that at all, made some great friends, and anything you wanted was readily available, no lines for drinks, kinda nice. Come the 5th or so we noticed the resort was starting to get VERY full, but no one was really around the beach or anything. I dont know if they still do this or not, but for the holiday on the 6th most people on the island travel to either Negril or Kingston i think it was for some HUGE parties. The resort was then very full but not most of those people stayed to the dinning hall or rooms. Alot of them would just grab food at the dining hall and walk back to the rooms, they really gave off a vibe that they wanted nothing to do with the sexy party going on. We never felt we were not safe, but at the same point we didnt really want to put on skimpy clothing for dinner anymore either. After the 6th things started to get back to normal, we actually went into town on the 7th and the place was TRASHED. We could still hear the party going on at 3:30 in the morning our windows were rattling as we went to bed. We still had a great trip, just something you should be aware of. Here is a link to our trip report if your interested...

ITGuy, we absolutely loved reading your report! LOL You should become a writer! The information and stories about your stay reminded us of our first trip to Hedo 2 1/2 years ago. We over-packed as well BIG time. If we decide to "over pack" this time, it will be with more toys and skimpy outfits and less every day clothing. I think this time we will also remember to bring insulated cups to keep our drinks cold. We didn't participate much in the theme nights--only a couple of them. There was one couple that was "dressed to the 9's" each theme night, and they looked awesome each night! We are probably going to book our trip through Denny P's and I'll ask him about the Independence Day going's on. While concerned about it, I don't think it will interfere with the entire trip since it would be happening upon our arrival and we're planning on 10 days. Thank you again for your input!

We still had a blast. Just something we thought people should know about. Didn't stop us from having a great time. Wish we could get back home again soon.

This year, Negril's big event (Dream Weekend) is earlier than most years. The party will start on July 28 and run until August 1 ( which is Emancipation day). Still, Negril should continue to be crowded until the following weekend. August 6 is Independence day.

That is the Jamaican independence holiday week. There will be a lot of locals at the resort, the nude side becomes...well not so nude, and security does not or cannot do much about it. There will be a lot of local gawkers all over the resort. We were only there once during this time, and decided we would not visit at that time in the future

Maybe the new security company will be more assertive regarding the nude zone protocol and the gawkers.

I think they are more lenient during that week since people are paying to use the place like a hotel. They let them come down to the bar and grill to have get food or drink, but then you have the Gawkers that just hang around. Doesnt make it right, but i dont think they are going to stop it.

Well, we have decided to go! We just booked our trip through Denny P's, and not only that...we are bringing along a friend and have even decided to extend our stay by one day (10 days of being HOME!!!). Thank you for the comments and advice. I'll be sure to post a trip report after we get back.
